Dear Parents,
Adler will be celebrating Earth Day by having a Waste-Free lunch on Tuesday, April 24th. Only children bringing in a lunch from home can participate. This is how it works:
Each item of the student’s lunch receives a score: -1 point for any trash. 0 points for recyclable, 1 point for reusable, and 2 points for natural foods in their own compostable wrapper (oranges, grapes, apples).
We will score each lunch brought from home and give it a score. The class that has the best over all score will be announced at the end of the day and receive an extra recess!
Parents may wonder why zero points are given for recyclables and the reason is the cost associated with collecting and processing the recyclables. Children that have hot lunch that day can recycle their milk containers and clean cardboard trays, and of course reuse their plastic tray!
Thank you,
Ms. Hutchinson
