Second Grade:
Kindergarten:
- We studied symmetry by designing some beautiful symmetrical butterfly designs. The students designed one half and then traced it on the other side to make it exactly the same. They added color using markers and then collaged it onto bright paper to make it pop.
We looked at Textiles from Ghana and the students created their own bold patterns using geometric shapes. We’ll study the color wheel and focus on complementary colors before painting them.
First Grade:
- We started off by studying self-portraits. The students used construction paper to create their own self-portrait collage.
- We read “The Little Shop of Monsters” by R.L. Stein and Marc Brown. We focused on texture and discussed how each monster in the story would feel if we could pet it. The students then created a texture and designed their own monster.
- We are currently making winter landscapes and focusing on watercolor techniques.
Kindergarten:
- We worked on self-portraits and practiced using scissors by cutting them out. We also focused on patterns by creating a pattern background.
- Our pumpkin paintings turned out so beautifully! We learned about the primary colors and mixed the secondary colors to paint the sky, pumpkins, and grass.
- Right now we are using shapes to draw an alligator. The students are drawing the alligator at their favorite place in Libertyville.
