Dear Adler Families, Happy Holidays! We have had a great week here at Adler. From our HMS Orchestra concert to today's field trip to The Marriott Lincolnshire to see Sleeping Beauty (THANK YOU AFA!), it has been a fun week for our students and staff. From all of us here at Adler Park, we hope you have a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. We are truly blessed to be able to spend our days with your children and to have such supportive and caring families. Thank you for all you do to make Adler a special place to work! Enjoy our winter break and see you in 2018. Mrs. Kerri Bongle Principal Haven't had a chance to donate yet? Here is a list of our requested items. You may bring donations any time to the office and they'll send them my way.
We have a special project coming up in the spring called Sew Much to Learn where students in grades 2-5 will explore sewing machines purchased through the District 70 Business Partners mini-grant program. Every students in those grades will make a bookmark to keep! We will need parent volunteers to supervise students when we use the machines. Don't worry if you have no sewing experience, I will teach you everything you need to know! Please click here to volunteer for this project and I will contact you with more details in the new year. Want to see more Design Lab pictures? Follow us on Twitter @ADLCD70! Want to try some of these awesome activities during winter break? Cook Park Library has books and other resources with STEM and other design ideas. Or you can check out Adler Library's Pinterest page. -Erin Carr, Learning Center Director To make sure students are always safe, we ask that parents park in parking spots when picking up children at Adler. We ask that you do this at 2:45 pick up, but also at any after school events or functions, such as band, orchestra or Maker Monday activities. We ask this to ensure that students get safely from the building to the cars in the parking lot. Thank you for your attention to this important request. The Office Staff Thank you to all the parents who have been checking their children each day/night for lice. We have seen a significant decrease in the amount of cases we are seeing at school since parents have been checking their children at home. However, over winter break, please make sure to be checking your children at home each night. If you scroll down further in this blog, the list of resources and tips are still listed for your reference. Thank you again for your assistance with this issue.
With the holidays around the corner, most of us will be doing some extra shopping at our local grocery stores. Adler Park has partnered with Heinen's Grocery Store (closest location in Lake Bluff on Waukegan Rd.) to raise money for our school through their Teaming Up For Education Program. Heinen's will donate back 1% of all sales to Adler Park when parents shop at any Heinen's locations. Parents can select Adler Park School when they sign up for the Tasteful Rewards Program and then 1% of all purchases will come back to Adler Park. A flier will come home with all students this week with ways to to sign up, but you can also visit Heinen's website to sign up (https://www.heinens.com/home/tasteful-rewards/). We look forward to teaming up with Heinen's and hope you consider when planning your holiday food shopping!
WELCOME TO DECEMBER!!!
I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather today. As the weather turns colder (predicted next week), please remember that we do go outside when it is pretty chilly. Sending your child in appropriate winter gear is important and please make sure to label anything that is sent in to school. This is the time of year when the Lost and Found is overflowing so please feel free to come in and look through it if you are missing items at home. With winter weather on the way, please make sure to review the school closing procedures on our website. While it is always the goal to have students in school, when safety is an issue, there is no compromise in placing children at risk. With that in mind, when there is a forecast of inclement weather, television and radio stations, as well as reports from the National Weather Service and Weather Channel, are monitored. When heavy snow or extremely cold temperatures are predicted, superintendents in neighboring school districts begin planning as early as 4:30 a.m. the morning of, or sometimes even the night before a storm. Communication is maintained with District 70's bus company representatives and the district's maintenance/snow removal crews as well. Please understand that there are many factors that go into making the final decision because D70 understands canceling school may be inconvenient for students and parents, as well as teachers and staff. Please visit our website for more information about how to be notified in the event that school is closed. We have some great AFA events coming up in the days ahead. Tomorrow I hope to see a great turn out at the AFA Pancake Breakfast and Holiday Shoppe from 7:30 – 10:30 am. We also have the Adler Talent Show on December 5th at Highland Middle School starting at 7:00 pm. All are welcome. Enjoy this festive and fun time of the year! Go Gators, Mrs. Kerri Bongle Principal Adler Park School Dear Adler Parents,
We need your help. We have an ongoing problem with lice reoccurring in our classrooms. This is very hard to combat at school without significant parent help at home. While students who have nits cannot be excluded from school, if the nits are not treated and removed, the nits can turn into live lice and spread. Once a child has a live bug, they are not allowed to stay at school and must be treated before they return to school. Here are some resources and tips to help combat this common issue within schools: Tips to help stop lice/nits from spreading:
